Goodbye to a fantastic 2016 and hello to a promising 2017!!

With several projects for new clients completed late in 2016 we would like to begin this last news post by thanking all our staff, contractors and associates for contributing to what has been another great year within the Optimum group.

We have broken ground with several new clients including ISG, Ikon Construction, Balfour Beatty and Skanska Major Projects, all of which have been developing into potential regular clients with all four having been managed by our teams focusing on client satisfaction with an open and honest approach to programme and detail and a special attention to quality using our tried and tested methods and teamwork working together with our clients’ site teams.

Numerous projects were handed over on time and to budget including four phases at Bristol International Airport for Balfour Beatty, the first of four buildings at Worthy Down Campus for Skanska Major Projects, Arafon House (a 300 bed student accommodation for Midas Construction) and an 80 bed city centre student accommodation in Bath for Ikon Construction.

A few of the other projects that started and are ongoing are Capital Quarter for Vinci Construction, Fitzalan Court for Midas Construction, both of which are student accommodation projects (1 new build and 1 refurbishment in Cardiff) and Lewins Mead for Bray & Slaughter, a 148 Apartment block (an existing office block conversion in the centre of Bristol.

We continue to work well with City & Country at the old Bristol General Hospital (a fantastic mix of refurbished and new build beautiful 2, 3 and 4 bedroom apartments), most recently completing Phase 3 which we have now handed over and apartments are 90% sold.

We were again nominated for an award for our work with Crest Regeneration over at their Bath Riverside project. This year we were nominated for large sub contractor of the year following us winning medium sub contractor in 2015. Unfortunately we did not win the award this year but on the plus side we have secured B5 which is the next phase consisting of 45 luxury apartments due for completion July/August 2017. This project is being run by Site Manager, Matt Charlton , surveyed by Mark ( Ronnie ) Rogers with Richard Bond as contracts manager overseeing , so “Good Luck to the team”.

Finally to end our year on a real high Optimum’s estimating department secured another student accommodation project for yet another new client, Kier Construction. We are delighted to have secured the internal partitions, drylining, suspended ceilings and associated fire stopping package for 33 Colston Street, Bristol. This prestigious scheme comprises of the full refurbishment of an existing 114 bed student accommodation building which sustained substantial fire damage in 2015. The fast tracked project is due to start in early January 2017 with completion expected around June/July 2017. We are relishing the challenge that this city centre project presents and to the start of a positive relationship with Kier and their project team.

Midas Construction – Arafon House Completed

We are pleased to announce the completion of yet another Student Accommodation Project in South Wales.

Situated in Oxford Street at the heart of Cardiff City Centre, this current project ‘Arafon House’, managed by Midas Construction offers Students the opportunity to ‘Live and Learn’ within such a vibrant and multicultural part of city.

Communal corridors join the associated bedroom units within each main core, some of which include the SINIAT Pregybel Acoustic Board System; which helps drown the noise a little on those late night student study nights!!

Once contracts were agreed, works commenced in late October / early November of 2015 and will be complete by the end of August 2016 : projected value will be near to £1.25 million.

Our relationship with Midas Construction has developed and flourished throughout the contract, with key site personnel taking on board the requirements of the Client, Contractor and the finished product : we hope that this will be a continuation of our ongoing relationship with Midas Construction in Wales & the West .
